Here are the details: The process of creating ATP is called Cellular Respiration. In the cell we have mitochondria (the powerhouse of the cell) When our cells are stressed, and have oxidative stress, we build up too much Nitric Oxide in the cell/mitochondria. When we have too much NO (nitric oxide) Cytochrome C-Oxidase binds to the NO. Cytochrome C-Oxidase (CCO) is an important piece to create ATP (Adenosine triphosphate) (energy currency of the cell). The more ATP available, the more energy we have! When CCO is bound to NO, Oxygen CANNOT bind to CCO to create a chemical reaction which leads to ATP Production. When we stimulate the cell mitochondria with the red light, the red light breaks the Nitric Oxide-Cytochrome C-Oxidase bond and the CCO is now free to bond with the oxygen awaiting.
