Finally! You asked for it! Now Floating has come to Saint Paul!

In celebration of Saint Paul Native John C. Lilly’s 100th birthday and his invention of the Float Tank, we have opened Minnesota’s Premier Float Center equipped with dual float chambers.

Floating is a therapy for body and mind. Float therapy is experiencing a rebirth into independent and integrated health care, becoming a large part of many people’s health and wellness regimens around the globe. We are excited to bring this floating renaissance to St. Paul and now Hudson!

Our Process…
Optimize your first float

• Refrain from drinking your morning cup of joe or any energy drink. This will increase your heart rate and potentially increase the opportunity for restlessness instead of relaxation.

• If you have a lot of energy, engage in some light exercise prior to your float.

• Refrain from shaving 12 hours prior to your float. This will prevent discomfort from the Epsom salt coming in contact with your freshly shaved skin.

• Stick with a light meal at least an hour prior to floating you don’t want a stuffed tummy, nor a tummy grumbling for food; this could be highly distracting!

Important! If you have dyed your hair or gotten a spray tan in the past two weeks you will be unable to float- Please read preparation details below.

Float Frequency

We recommend 2-3 sessions within a month to fully experience the benefits that floating has to offer. After your third float we recommend 1-2 times a month. Floating is a very personal experience, so you may find it best to float once a week or once a month.

Benefits Explained

Mind
Body
Although the precise mechanism is not yet fully understood, it is apparent that floating triggers a “reset” for the body’s and mind’s homeostasis– so in whatever way you may be out of balance – structural, neuro-chemical, metabolic, floating helps you to come back towards your particular baseline center. Although there are no guarantees – floating maybe an important element in your unique healing process.
Studies and anecdotal evidence suggests that floating helps relieve many addictive behaviors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, and over eating. Not only has this worked in the short term but many report maintaining abstinence years later. This may be in part because floating stimulates the body to release its own “feel good” bio-chemicals – one can feel euphoric, as on a ”natural high”. It also may be from the environment that encourages being present and possibly offering time of reflection and inner exploration.
As an antidote to personal and societal demands, multi-taking and over-stimulation of the senses, floating can help you effectively and quickly let go of stress. Stress drains the body of magnesium and increases levels of adrenaline. When dissolved in warm water, Epsom salt is absorbed through the skin and replenishes the level of magnesium in the body. The float chamber environment induces and sustains the relaxation response of the Autonomic Nervous System. Floating also normalizes physiology, reducing stress related hormones and increasing “feel good hormones” – this could encourage a sense of euphoria. This all occurs without you having to work at it – or DO anything. So let go of your stress and feel refreshed and rejuvenated.
The float tank is filled with approximately 1000 lbs of Epsom salts dissolved into the warm water. By soaking in this high concentration of Magnesium-Sulfate, The sulfate helps flush toxins and heavy metals from the cells, easing muscle pain and helping the body to eliminate harmful substances. Many acute and chronic pain sufferers report a significant reduction in pain. Some even report being pain FREE – sometimes for the first time in months – even years! The uniquely supportive float environment may serve to release pain induced protective “body armor,” induce feel good endorphins and re-establish homeostasis. Chemically, the Magnesium-Sulfate (Epsom salt) when absorbed through the skin can bring magnesium directly into the bloodstream which can have a relaxing effect and increase functionality in the entire body. Magnesium is an essential part to muscle function. Epsom salt bathing is known to ease pain and relieve inflammation, making it beneficial for sore muscles and migraine headaches. The effects can also be cumulative, lasting a number of days post session.

There are studies and indications that floating helps specific conditions such as hypertension, fibromyalgia, neurological and endocrine disorders, structural imbalance, sleep disturbances, anxiety and depression.

Beyond addressing physiological imbalances, floating helps in building upon what is already functioning well. Over time your float sessions can gently move you toward a state of heightened health and optimal well-being.

A helpful process to consider: Floating & the 4R sequence:

Floating can be of great benefit in athletic training. By promoting optimal utilization of resources to support focus, as well as physical and mental recovery, it effectively allows the body to regain a state of homeostasis. Many athletes utilize floating and its neutral environment to visualize their performance and goals. Individuals report floating as an effective means to unite the mind and body in practice and performance.

The combination of reduced sensory input, a nurturing, supportive environment, limited influence of gravity, and saturated magnesium sulfate, allows the autonomic nervous system to drop into deep, sustained relaxation. The magnesium helps to produce serotonin, a mood-elevating chemical within the brain that creates a feeling of calm and relaxation. The mind can slip into a meditative brain wave state of Theta and Delta (between waking and sleep), typically without losing consciousness. It is a deep, pleasurable release into a safe, comfortable place, potentially more profound than most other experiences in your life.

Many skilled meditators proclaim floating to be the “fast track” to meditation. Within as little as 10 minutes, floating can induce a deep meditative state. Floating can be passive or active, depending on the purpose. You may perform silent meditation, mantras, or self-hypnosis. Floating allows the body to relax. As the body relaxes, the mind becomes highly susceptible to any thought or feeling during these states and can easily enter the information into the sub-conscious.
Floating is a perfect complement to any treatment, traditional and alternative, accelerating and amplifying the healing process; Mentally, Physically, and Spiritually. Floating has the possibility to capitalizes on the body’s utilization of resources for detoxification and restoration. Many individuals suffering from acute and chronic conditions report the floating experience to be important, even instrumental in their personal healing journey.
Lucid dreaming is the conscious perception of one’s state while dreaming, resulting in a much clearer experience and sometimes enabling direct control over the content of the dream. In other words, dreaming while knowing that you are dreaming- you are in the driver’s seat! Floating will give you a shortcut to lucid dreaming. And many clients remark how much more vivid their dreams are after a session in a floatation tank.
Many religious beliefs speak of solitude as way to be in the most spiritual space. Many people utilize the float tank as a time for prayer and reflection. For some, it is the only time they get to be by themselves and really let go of fears and distraction.
